Raul Curto, professor of mathematics in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been named a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, one of the discipline’s highest honors. The recognition celebrates his groundbreaking work in multivariable operator theory, extensive scholarly contributions, and longstanding commitment to mentoring students and early-career mathematicians.

UI Carver College of Medicine is piloting an ASL course to improve communication between providers and deaf patients amid communication challenges in health care settings.

The 10-week program provides awardees with dedicated offices, financial support, and access to CSSI’s research expertise and infrastructure. The program also includes weekly accountability meetings and workshops to learn how to effectively fund, sustain, and broadcast their research.

niversity of Iowa alumnus Samuel D. Hunter’s Broadway debut, Little Bear Ridge Road, received a Tony Award nomination for Best Play. The show, starring Laurie Metcalf and Micah Stock, won Best Play earlier in the week at the New York Drama Critics’ Circle.
