Being a CLAS Student Ambassador is an exciting volunteer opportunity for Iowa undergraduate students in CLAS. Students in this position will share their experience as a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and showcase their passion for the University of Iowa while enhancing their leadership skills.

The Department of Biology and Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences both have their own student ambassador programs. If you are a Biology or Psychological and Brain Sciences student, please visit their websites for additional information and separate application.

Ambassador responsibilities

In this role, students assist with recruitment activities by sharing personal experiences on student panels, assisting with their department’s tables at Exploring Majors Fairs, and participating in various other opportunities to connect with prospective students and their families, like social media engagement or postcard writing. The position has a participation requirement of six hours per semester. The team meets monthly for a professional development experience (with refreshments!) so students can continue growing in their role as CLAS Student Ambassadors.

Benefits

We offer professional development sessions for our student ambassadors at monthly meetings. This has included sessions on resume building, salary negotiation, public speaking, and more! Our monthly meetings help Student Ambassadors make connections with people across departments and build a great team environment. There are potential opportunities to grow into a leadership role for the program in subsequent semesters.

Students who go above and beyond the six-hour requirement may have the opportunity to receive a Student Service Award signed by CLAS Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education Cornelia Lang to recognize their accomplishments as student ambassadors.
