CLAS psychological and brain sciences researchers open hub in Cedar Rapids

In June, researchers in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences opened a multipurpose space in Cedar Rapids to tap into the city’s larger and more diverse population, with the goal to enroll hundreds of participants in studies involving topics such as language learning, reading, exercise, and cognitive aging, and behavioral markers for alcohol use disorder in older teenagers and young adults.

Viridiana Hernández Fernández, a Department of History faculty member, was published in The Conversation discussing her research on the development of a global avocado industry centered in Michoacán. Her research shows that raising avocados is economically beneficial in the short term for farmers but it takes a toll on the region's land, forests, and water supply.
Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders receives $1.2 million grant to increase training of students serving diverse communities
