The Stevens Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship

The Stevens Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship  was established in memory of Guy and Adeline Stevens by their daughter, University of Iowa Assistant Professor Emerita Harriet Stevens. The scholarship is equal to two semesters of resident undergraduate tuition.

The scholarship is awarded each year to a junior (minimum 75 semester hours completed by the close of the spring semester) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who has at least two semesters of work remaining for a bachelor’s degree in natural science.

  • The primary criteria for selection are professional promise and personal integrity, as indicated by the three required letters of recommendation (two academic, one personal).
  • Applicants must be degree candidates in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  • Applicants must have minimum grade point averages of 3.80 (University of Iowa and cumulative).

Application

2025 – 2026 ACADEMIC YEAR

The Stevens Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship is awarded each year to a junior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with at least two semesters of work remaining (minimum 75 semester hours earned by the close of the spring 2025 semester) toward a bachelor’s degree in natural science. 

  • Applicants must be degree candidates in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  • Applicants must have minimum grade point averages (University of Iowa and Cumulative) of 3.80.

The primary criteria for selection are professional promise and personal integrity, as indicated by three recommendations (two academic, one personal). The scholarship is equal to two semesters of resident undergraduate tuition.

How To Apply: New, Easier & Online Application Process:

  1. Applicants fill out the online application.
  2. Applicant instructs references (two academic, one personal) to fill out this online reference application form.  
    1. In the online reference application form, references will be asked six multiple-choice and short-answer questions. They can also either type or, if they have written a formal recommendation letter, copy/paste that into the online reference application form to complete their part of the application.

Please note: Students do not need to be members of Phi Beta Kappa to apply for the Stevens PBK scholarship. The application for this scholarship is not processed through the central Iowa Scholarship Portal.
