10. CLAS Magid Writing Center director wins National Jewish Book Award

Now the director of the new Office of Writing and Communication, Daniel Khalastchi received the Berru Poetry Award in Memory of Ruth and Bernie Weinflash for his work.

Ava Reed, a student in the College of Engineering, spent her summer designing and constructing the mini replica of the NASA funded satellite mission.

HSHP assistant professor Jessica Gorzelitz is overseeing the nearly $650,000 project funded through the University of Iowa’s P3 initiative.

1. Beloved Iowa professor Jay Holstein dies at 87

Jay Holstein, emeritus professor in the Department of Religious Studies, died on Nov. 14 at the age of 87. Over more than five decades at the University of Iowa, Holstein taught tens of thousands of students and became one of the institution’s most celebrated educators.
