To ensure your registration goes smoothly, follow these tips from academic advisors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and don’t forget to schedule your advising appointment soon.
Consult the experts
Schedule your advising appointment and reach out with questions today so that you are ready to put your plan into action at registration time. Winter and spring registration opens Nov. 10-Dec. 5. You will be able to check your individual registration date and time on MyUI starting Oct. 20, but it’s not too early to get on your advisor’s schedule.
Advising appointments fill quickly. If you need advisor authorization to register, or want advisor feedback on your plan, visit advising appointments in MyUI to schedule a time with your primary advisor or to find drop-in times.
Keep your eyes on the prize
It’s important to review your requirements and what you have already completed before choosing classes. Run an updated degree audit in MyUI, and check for categories and course numbers you still need. Your degree audit shows the specific requirements you locked into when you started your programs, making it your most accurate source of information.
Plan multiple paths
Use Schedule Builder to save potential classes and see if they work together. Putting back-up classes in your cart and saving multiple “Preferred Schedule” options will help you pivot and stay confident if your perfect plan doesn’t work out.

Know your tools
Use the search feature on Schedule Builder for a more streamlined search. Use the Courses/Registration page on MyUI for a more detailed search. You can use the Courses/Registration search feature to:
Search specific Gen. Ed. categories
Search by credit hours
Search by modality, i.e. In-Person or Online
Once registration is ongoing, you can use the Open & Available feature to weed out full courses.
Sync your tools
Did you use MyPlan to map out your semesters? Send your MyPlan courses to Schedule Builder with one click! View/edit your MyPlan and use the calendar icon in the upper right corner of your spring 2026 semester to export.
Don't let a hold stand in your way
Prior to registering, you will need to clear any registration holds. These holds might include an unsigned student agreement, overdue u-bill, and missing transcripts. Log in to MyUI and check the “Registration Info” section on the MyUI Advising tab to see any holds.
