For the past two years, Iowa graduates and married couple Camden Palmisano and Sarah Corcoran have visited a new country every month.

How? Remote work.

Palmisano and Corcoran graduated with degrees from the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and have spent the last two years traveling around the world while working completely online.

The pair are crossing continents—recently visiting Europe, Asia, and Africa—and after two years of visiting a different country monthly, they are looking to settle down more permanently in Europe and are considering the Netherlands. Though they still plan to visit a new country every month for at least the next three to four years.

Palmisano, graduated from Iowa with degrees in journalism and mass communication and sports management. Corcoran studied social work. Currently, Palmisano is working for SafetyWing, a company that supports other remote companies, and Corcoran is working as a therapist.

Neither are from the Midwest, but ended up attending the UI, where they met and fell in love.

"Both of us had moved [to Iowa] from the west coast. My wife is from Canada and had grown up in Vegas and I was living out in Los Angeles at the time—but for some reason, we both went to the Midwest and ended up at the University of Iowa,” Palmisano explains.

While enrolled at Iowa, the couple spent a lot of time together exploring nearby cities like Chicago and St. Louis that are easy driving distance from Iowa City.

“We often did a bunch of weekend trips to surrounding cities. And you're just exposed to a lot of different people,” Palmisano explains.

Those simple adventures sparked their interest in bigger, international destinations. While pursuing graduate degrees at Iowa the pair participated in summer practicums, which allowed them to experience even more travel and cities.

Palmisano says the foundations he learned while studying at Iowa have helped him in his career—and gave him the skills to land a job that gives him the flexibility to prioritize exploring the world.
