The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) typically opens on Oct. 1 each fall, but it is delayed this year due to the FAFSA Simplification Act. Significant changes are coming to the FAFSA, but it should make the process of filing easier for students and parents.

In the meantime, students can prepare for the FAFSA by following the guidance of the Office of Student Financial Aid. If you have any questions, please reach out to the office by emailing financial-aid@uiowa.edu or calling 319-335-1450.

Scholarship Portal

The University of Iowa has hundreds of scholarship opportunities available, including general scholarships and departmental scholarships. Scholarships may be recommended to you at different times throughout the year as applications become available. Visit the Iowa Scholarship Portal often for the latest offerings.

CLAS Scholarships

In addition to the FAFSA and scholarships, there are a number of other ways to fund your education. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers a variety of scholarships to its students. As a result of the generosity of all our scholarship donors, CLAS has been able to provide over $1 million in scholarship assistance to over 250 students during the academic year. Learn more by visiting the CLAS scholarships webpage.

The application period for current CLAS undergraduate students will be Dec. 1-Jan. 21, 2024. The CLAS Scholarship award winners will be announced after the pending updates to the 2024-2025 FAFSA are complete.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences encourages all of its students to explore funding options to make your education more affordable.
