Registration for the spring semester is coming up quickly. Follow these tips from academic advisors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to ensure you are ready to register.

Follow these five steps to be registration-ready.

Advisor with student

Orient yourself

Start by checking your registration date and time and then add it to your calendar. You can find it in MyUI when logged in as well as warnings about any registration holds. It’s important to register at your time to have the best selection of classes, so clear up your holds as soon as you can. You should also verify major(s) and advisor(s). Contact your advisor ASAP before registration if you plan to change any majors.

Schedule with your advisor

Visit advising appointments in MyUI to schedule a time with your primary advisor or to find drop-in times. Your primary advisor may need to authorize you before you can register, so be sure to schedule an appointment prior to your registration date.

Be prepared

Run an updated degree audit in MyUI and review the requirements. Update MyPlan and add courses to the schedule builder. Read course descriptions and review general education options before your meeting. Find backup choices.

Make the most of your meeting

Take the time to prepare in advance to make the most of your meeting. Plan to bring a proposed schedule with specific courses and potential alternates, as well as a list of any questions you have for your advisor.

Check your work

After registering, take time to double-check your schedule. Verify your class list in MyUI under the courses/registration tab. Request and review an updated degree audit to ensure courses are showing up where they should and contact your advisor if you notice any issues. If you aren’t able to get your first choice of classes, get on a waitlist, and enroll in alternative courses.

Registration can be stressful, but with the right preparation, you won’t need to worry. Schedule your advising appointment and reach out with questions today so that you are ready to put your plan into action at registration time.
