The University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is home to music, theatre, and dance at Iowa. Students, faculty, and staff have many opportunities to enjoy these and other live performances on campus throughout the year. You won’t want to miss these offerings.
Dance Gala
This year marks the return of the UI Department of Dance's Dance Gala to the Hancher stage, where students and faculty will collaborate to perform an exciting piece highlighting the strengths, abilities, and stories of dancers at Iowa. Hancher Auditorium will host this production on Nov. 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the Hancher Box Office website—be sure to keep an eye out for discounts on tickets.
School of Music Concerts
The UI School of Music offers myriad performances for students, faculty, and the general public to enjoy. Step inside the breathtaking Voxman Music Building and listen to the sounds of student bands and ensembles, solo performances, and faculty presentations. All concerts are listed on the Arts Iowa calendar.
Theatre Arts Season
If you find yourself looking for somewhere to spend your time on the weekends, check out the Theatre Arts website to see what performances are coming up and when you can see them. Hawkeye Marching Band
From the incredible halftime shows at Iowa football games to pre-game performances, the Hawkeye Marching Band provides the soundtrack to fall in Iowa City.
In addition to these Saturday events, the marching band will also perform during the 2022 Band Extravaganza set for 4 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Xtream Arena in Coralville. Enjoy the sounds of the HMB as well as the Iowa Symphony Band, Johnson County Landmark, and the City High Little Hawks Marching Band.
Tickets can be purchased online for $16. Discount rates are available for youth, groups, and seniors.
Hancher Auditorium
Hancher has been delighting the Iowa City community since 1972 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season with an exciting lineup including the Broadway hit Annie, iconic singer Patti LaBelle, and beloved cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Students can purchase discounted tickets from the Hancher Box Office.
Piano Sundays at the Old Capitol
In the Senate Chambers of the Old Capitol Museum where the leaders of this state once held council, you can now find a historic Steinway piano by the name of Rosie, waiting to be played in the corner of the room. Guest pianists, including some faculty members, will perform on Sunday Nov. 6, Feb. 5, March 5, and April 3 at 1:30 p.m.
