Kenneth Phillips (1945-2018)

Kenneth Phillips The UI School of Music and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences mourn the passing of Professor Emeritus Kenneth Phillips, who held a joint appointment in music and education from 1985 to 2002. Dr. Phillips was the recipient of five outstanding teaching awards from the University of Iowa, and was recognized by the National Association for Music Education as one of the nation’s most accomplished music educators (Teaching Music, October 2000).

Obituary in the New Castle News, October 19, 2018:

Dr. Kenneth Harold Phillips, PhD, of Orchard Park Drive, Neshannock Township, died peacefully at his residence on Friday evening, Oct. 19, 2018. He was born in Beaver Falls to the late Edwin and Katherine Lash Phillips. He married Donna Jene Womer on May 14, 1968, and she survives at the residence.

Dr. Phillips published a number of books during his career in music. He retired from the University of Iowa and later was head of the masters program at Gordon University. He was a guest conductor and lecturer worldwide. He was an avid traveler.

In addition to his wife, Donna, survivors include: one daughter, Sandra Susan (Dave) Davis of Edinboro; two sons, Peter John Moore and Gerry Lee Moore, both of Union Township; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Phillips is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edwin and Dick Phillips; and one son, Jim Moore.
