CLAS Instructional Track Faculty Policy

As approved by the Provost’s Office, CLAS will hold a faculty referendum vote April 24 – May 1, 2024 in consideration of the new CLAS Instructional Track Faculty (ITF) Policy. This referendum will be held along with the CLAS Faculty Governance Elections.

Summary of Changes

The ITF Policy Committee provided a full report documenting the decisions made in developing this policy.

Below is a list of the key changes in the proposed policy:

  • Aimed to balance flexibility with accountability through transparency.
  • Removed “professional productivity” as a criterion for promotion; defined the term “professional activity.”
  • Adjusted the standard effort allocation to 80/20.
  • Delineated the roles of Professors of Practice vs. Instruction.
  • Clarified the appointment, reappointment, and promotion criteria for each rank.
  • Redesigned the annual evaluation criteria and procedures.
  • Clarified voting rights for instructional track faculty.
  • Created multiple pathways to recommend policy revisions.

Information Sessions

Members of the ITF Policy Committee will host three informational sessions to answer questions faculty and staff may have regarding the proposed ITF Policy.
