Midterm Grade Reports

As a reminder, midterm class lists are due no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. Spring 2022 midterm class lists are available in MAUI for courses underway. Click on the "My Courses" link to display the courses you are assigned to teach. Under the "Midterm List" heading, click on "edit" to display the students currently registered for your course.

• Midterms grades for students earning an F, D-, D, and D+ should be reported by March 24, 2022.
• Please also consider sending out midterm grades to those students earning a C-, C, and C+ to encourage students to work even harder and to attend each class.
• Academic advisors and staff in my office can also access these midterm grade “alerts,” and we then reach out to students, offering our help.
• Please see the DEO mailings from February 23 and March 2 for best practices related to midterm assessment and strategies for students having difficulties.

Reporting these low grades is an added strategy to communicate with students, particularly those who are attending class sporadically. It is very important that all instructors make sure that each student in a course has a sense of their current grade before the mid-point of the semester. This information can help students make a better-informed assessment of whether they should remain in a course or drop it by the deadline.

Drop Deadline

• Please remind your students that the deadline for an undergraduate to drop an individual semester-length course without dean’s authorization is Monday, April 4.
• Students must obtain authorization to drop from their academic advisor, then finalize the drop in MyUI by 11:59 pm on the deadline.
• If a student wants to drop after the deadline, please refer them to CLAS Undergraduate Programs as soon as possible (clasps@uiowa.edu, 319-335-2633, 120 Schaeffer Hall).
• CLAS typically does not make exceptions to the drop deadline except in situations where the student has been seriously ill, has had a family emergency, or has been involved in a similar extenuating circumstance. In these cases, documentation is required for the College to approve a drop after the April 4 deadline.
• Deadlines for off-cycle courses may be found using the Registrar’s Course Deadlines Lookup.

Withdrawal Deadline

• The deadline for undergraduates to withdraw their entire spring 2022 registration without dean’s authorization is 11:59 pm on Monday, April 18.
• Please refer students to their academic advisor for authorization and assistance if they wish to withdraw.
• If a CLAS student wants to withdraw after the deadline, please refer them to my office (clasps@uiowa.edu, 319-335-2633, 120 Schaeffer Hall).
