The National Humanities Alliance (NHA) and the Federation of State Humanities Councils (Federation) are pleased to announce a new grant program to support the attendance and travel expenses of up to 15 attendees of the 2022 National Humanities Conference. We are grateful to the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) for its support of this program.

Applications are due by September 30, 2022.

The grants will reimburse travel, lodging, and registration expenses relating to the National Humanities Conference for U.S.-based humanities students and humanities professionals and scholars from a range of organizations such as state and jurisdictional humanities councils, community colleges, four-year colleges, universities, museums, community organizations, and libraries. The grants are also available to those who are not affiliated with a particular organization.

Applications are particularly encouraged from individuals from marginalized populations and communities previously underrepresented at the National Humanities Conference. Preference will be given to applicants who can articulate the barriers to access that they have faced in their humanities education and/or work and explain how participation in this conference will benefit their professional development.

Preference will also be given to applicants who are members of the humanities council community, are employed by or a student at an NHA member institution, or are affiliated with one of NHA’s scholarly society members. Click here for a full list of NHA member institutions and organizations.

Grants of up to $1,895 will reimburse recipients for conference registration, travel, and lodging expenses. Grant recipients are required to attend the entire National Humanities Conference in Los Angeles, California, November 10-13, 2022. At the conference, the cohort will gather to get to know one another, network with conference attendees, and meet with senior staff from the NEH.
