The National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) program is a long-running program that supports the acquisition or development of a multi-user research instrument that is, in general, too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NSF programs.

NSF recently made major changes to this program, including how they count the number of applications each institution may submit. (For example, subawards may count toward the limit depending on the budget and how they are submitted.)

The OVPR’s Research Development Office (RDO) is hosting an information session via Zoom on June 22 focusing on the NSF MRI program, including the recent changes. During the session, the RDO will give an overview of the program, highlight recent restrictions on subawardees, hear from a previous MRI awardee, and allow time for questions.
Researchers interested in applying to the program this fall are highly encouraged to attend this session.
