As part of the ACE Task Force recommendations related to teaching evaluation, all students, regardless of UI college, have been asked to provide feedback on the same nine standard ACE questions beginning in Fall 2020.  Therefore, the CLAS Core questions and any other CLAS departmental questions no longer appear on ACE forms.

For courses offered in fall 2020 and moving forward, the following six ACE question responses are required on the Summary Teaching Chart for Promotion and Tenure.  ACE scores recorded prior to Fall 2020 must include the former CLAS Core and at least two additional ACE summary scores.  Summaries for courses offered prior to Spring 2016 must include Oral Communication Competence and at least five additional questions; in as much as possible, three of the five questions should be similar to the CLAS Core questions.

New Required ACE Questions:

  1. Organization—The instructor used class time well.
  2. Clarity – The instructor communicated course material clearly.
  3. Learning Focused – The instructor’s teaching methods helped students learn.
  4. Learning Materials—The assignments, readings, and activities facilitated student learning.
  5. Assessment— Assessments (such as quizzes, papers, and exams) aligned with course objectives.
  6. Support—Help was available for students.

Former CLAS Core:

  1. Instructor was effective
  2. Work assigned was worthwhile
  3. Instructor supported student learning
  4. Oral communication competence
