As discussed at the DEO and Admin meeting on Monday, December 4, the Provost's Office has decided to shift the application timeline for Professional Development Awards (PDAs) up from August to the middle of spring semester. The updated PDA application and reporting deadlines can be found here.

For PDAs to be taken during the 2025-2026 academic year, the new deadlines are as follows:

Faculty submits PDA application via the Faculty Admin Center and routes to the DEO: Due March 22, 2024
DEO evaluates and ranks their department's PDA applications within the Faculty Admin Center and routes to the college: Due April 5, 2024
The Associate Dean for Research convenes the PDA Review Committee to evaluate applications and transmits the college's recommendations to the Provost: Due May 3, 2024

Note that CLAS intends to inform faculty in May 2024 as to whether their PDA application was recommended to the Provost for approval. However, approval at the Provost level will not occur until October 2024 and final approval of PDAs will not take place until the Board of Regents' meeting on November 6-7, 2024.

CLAS will no longer have an "Intent to Apply" deadline or process at the collegiate level. Each DEO will work with their administrator to query their PDA-eligible faculty for their intention to apply, and will work through their departmental process to ensure that award requests are spaced out by semester and that the number of annual applications is in line with the need to maintain instructional capacity. DEOs and admins can use a new tool in the Faculty Admin Center to aid in identifying eligible faculty; more information on this tool will be sent directly to DEOs and admins.

The FAC Development Awards portal is open for award year 2025-26.

The Iowa Board of Regents submission deadline for 2025-26 Professional Development Award (PDA) Requests and 2023-24 PDA Reports is scheduled earlier than normal. To avoid deadlines during the summer and allow sufficient time for review, we are shifting the PDA application process to the Spring. PDA Reports deadlines will remain in the fall but are encouraged to be submitted soon after the completion of the PDA. These requests and reports will remain on the November 2024 Iowa Board of Regents docket for final approval.

The revised deadlines are:

PDA Requests
2025-26 PDA faculty applications due to DEO by March 22, 2024.
2025-26 PDA DEO recommendations to the Dean by April 5, 2024.
2025-26 PDA Dean recommendations to the Provost by May 3, 2024.

PDA Reports
2023-24 PDA faculty report due to DEO by August 26, 2024.
2023-24 PDA DEO approval to the Dean by September 2, 2024.
2023-24 PDA Dean approval to the Provost by September 16, 2024.

PLEASE NOTE: Applications submitted in Spring 2024 are for leaves to be taken during AY 25-26. Leaves for AY 24-25 have already been awarded.
