Each spring the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences selects two eligible graduating students to receive the Dean’s Achievement Award. Nominated undergraduate students must be eligible for services from the Center for Inclusive Academic Excellence (CIAE), formerly the Center for Diversity and Enrichment (CDE). The awards will be made at the Center for Inclusive Academic Excellence Graduation Reception on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

The College looks upon the nomination process as an opportunity for individual faculty who teach, advise, and often mentor students in the major department to recommend students whom they consider deserving of special awards and recognition.

These students should have made significant contributions to the university or surrounding communities through their vision and action. In addition, the students should demonstrate responsibility, inspiration, diligence, and good judgment. The selection committee is interested in the student’s academic accomplishments within and beyond the major, special honors or scholarships, and activities and volunteering (on and off campus).

CIAE-eligible students who graduated in December 2021 or who will graduate in May or August 2022 are eligible for nomination. Each department may nominate up to two students. Please note that nominees should have a minimum 3.30 University of Iowa and Cumulative Grade Point Average. Although all may have completed 120 semester hours by May or August 2022, we ask for your help in verifying with students whether they are planning to graduate at that time.

Please solicit a resume and a brief biography (75-100 words) from your nominee. Email these and your letter of support to Gabriella McDermott (gabriella-mcdermott@uiowa.edu), by Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Questions should also be directed to Gabriella McDermott.

Thank you for your support in celebrating the achievements of our students.
