In the spring of 2023, the College’s Information Technologies Committee will consider proposals to create, maintain, and improve instructional technology resources with funding from FY24 student technology fees (STF). The committee will consider a broad range of proposals to renew or revitalize existing technology or to establish new educational technology initiatives that support undergraduate learning.

Any academic unit in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences may submit proposals. Units are encouraged to submit collaborative proposals where appropriate. Each unit may submit more than one proposal; multiple proposals from the same unit must be prioritized by the DEO.

Proposals must be submitted by Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

**** New DEO Process ****

In a continuing effort to streamline process and reduce administrative overhead, DEOs will no longer be asked to write a narrative letter in support of each of their department proposals. Instead, DEOs will be added to the Universal Workflow Path for each proposal and will be asked to rate each one as High, Medium, or Low priority.  To do this, DEOs should click the blue “Edit Submitted Data” button, make the appropriate radio button selection, and then click “Submit Edits to Workflow” followed by “Approve Package.”

Types of Proposals

One-Time Proposal
The most common and preferred type of proposal. This category will include project requests that can be completed within one funding cycle.

Recurring/Multiyear Proposal
This rarer category allows for complex initiatives to support the operation, maintenance, and refresh of longer-range pedagogical concepts for up to four years.

All requests must include a clear explanation of the role of the technology in undergraduate teaching, including the specific courses that will use the resources and the enrollments in these courses. A more detailed call for proposals, including evaluation criteria, proposal submission guidelines and a list of previously awarded proposals can be found here: http://clas.uiowa.edu/it-group/student-technology-fees.
