The CLAS Collegiate Fellow program, established in 2000-2001, is seeking nominations for the honor of “Collegiate Fellow.” Faculty members who achieve the rank of full professor and have an established record of sustained development and productivity in the areas of teaching; of research, scholarship, and creative work; and of service are eligible to be nominated. The College particularly wishes to recognize and incorporate more closely into its work those faculty who, in addition to demonstrating continued excellence and leadership in their field, have also contributed exceptional service to the institution.

Below is the criteria and procedures for this process:

  1. Eligibility.  A faculty member will be considered for designation as a Collegiate Fellow after five or more years at the rank of Professor. A faculty member may not hold the designation Collegiate Fellow concurrently with an appointment to a named chair or professorship.
  2. Process.  The Dean will consider individuals for this honor on the basis of post-tenure reviews and discussions with department chairs.  Unsolicited nominations from faculty will also be considered. The Dean will consult the College’s ad hoc committee on named chairs and professorships before making a decision that the designation of Collegiate Fellow be awarded.
  3. Designation.  Each year the College will designate one or more faculty members as Collegiate Fellows contingent on funding availability. In accordance with University policy, the designation will be for a five-year, renewable term.  The faculty member will be awarded a one-time teaching/research allowance of $2,000 to be used during his/her first two years as Collegiate Fellow. A gift to the college from the late R. F. and Maryon E. Ladwig supports a discretionary teaching/research fund for each Fellow.

To nominate, please address a DEO letter to the Dean describing the significance of the nominee’s work and provide an updated version of the nominee’s CV (please do not inform the faculty member of your nomination as this step in the process is confidential). Materials should be emailed to
