Many instructors have been reading about, and perhaps experimenting with, the new Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools that can compose text (Chat GPT being the emerging familiar tool). Over the winter break, a group at U Iowa (from ITS, OTLT Center for Teaching, the Provost’s Office and others), has put together some resources on AI and Teaching:

This page has answers to common questions you might have such as:

  • What are some examples of syllabus language I can use?
  • How do I have conversations with my students about academic integrity and AI tools?

Since CLAS has not yet had time for faculty discussions about this technology and the use/misuse of it in courses, we are hoping that these resources will help to answer your questions and inform some of your thinking just in time for the start of classes next week. We are likely to have some discussions this coming semester in UEPCC, among the DUS group, and in other venues and we invite you to contribute your thoughts, strategies, and ideas to those conversations.
