All textbooks must be ordered for the next semester before Early Registration begins in order for UI to be in compliance with the HEO Act.

  • Textbook Ordering Deadline for Fall 2018: Before April 9, 2018
  • This is a mandated, university-wide deadline that applies to all UI colleges and courses.
  • Early ordering saves students money—substantial amounts—and this is the central reason that the HEO Act regarding textbooks was enacted.
  • See the attached handout showing how textbook prices rise substantially as the new semester approaches.

An exception to the above deadline will be made in the following circumstances:

  • If an instructor has not yet been hired
  • If the instructor has not yet been assigned to a course
  • If the course is new and still under development
  • If the textbook is new and still under development

If an exception has been made, please be sure to show this in the Offerings Planning so that the course is removed from the Missing Textbook Report. Simply use the pull down menu on the course Textbook and Other Resources page to select and save one of the allowable reasons, listed above.

Courses with an 0IND (Independent Study) identifier are also excluded from the Missing Textbook report.

Thank you for helping our students by ordering your books before Early Registration begins.

Did you know? Textbook prices spike when faculty delay book orders.
