First-Year Seminar proposals for Fall 2017 are now being accepted. First-Year Seminars introduce students to college-level learning, facilitate the transition to the University of Iowa, and provide students with an opportunity to work closely with UI faculty, staff or a senior-level administrator.

Please note that all proposals must be submitted electronically; see the link below.

  • The deadline for proposals is Monday, February 6, 2017.
  • Even if you are currently teaching or have taught the same First-Year Seminar in the past, you must submit a new proposal in order for the FYS to be considered for Fall 2017. All FYS require a proposal.
  • Instructors must obtain approval from their DEO or direct supervisor prior to submitting a proposal.
  • In addition to faculty, executive and instructional staff may submit a proposal for review.
  • Merit staff and graduate/teaching assistants are not eligible to teach a First-Year Seminar.

Additional information about First-Year Seminars, including policies and procedures and links to resources for instructors, is available at the University College website: http://uc.uiowa.edu/academics/first-year-seminars

Many thanks for your interest in teaching a First-Year Seminar. Please contact Andrew Beckett (andrew-beckett@uiowa.edu) or Angie Lamb (angela-lamb@uiowa.edu) if you have questions.
