Dear CLAS Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that CLAS is appointing the following colleagues to new positions in the Dean's Office, effective January 1, 2020:

• Professor of French and Italian Roland Racevskis will be our new Associate Dean for the Arts and Humanities.
• Professor of Social Work Sara Sanders will be our new Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Director of Diversity. Professor Sanders is currently Director of the School of Social Work.
• Professor of Mathematics Maggy Tomova will be our new Associate Dean for the Natural, Mathematical, and Social Sciences. Professor Tomova is currently DEO of the Department of Mathematics.

In her role as CLAS Director of Diversity, Professor Sanders will chair the CLAS Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I am eager to have her expertise and leadership in such a vital strategic priority for CLAS and the UI.

I wish to thank the Search Committee—led by Professors Jerald Moon of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Ana Rodríguez-Rodríguez of Spanish and Portuguese—for an outstanding job conducting these three searches efficiently and inclusively, and on a very tight timeline.

I also want to offer my gratitude and respect to you all for the high level of engagement and interest in these searches. The quality of applicants we received and the insightful feedback we got from our colleagues during the process are great signs of our shared commitment to excellence and impact throughout CLAS.
