1.  The Registrar is asking faculty to refrain from requesting the revision of any course number until further notice.

  • Registrar staff members are working on converting the degree audit to the new “u.achieve” audit; revising course numbers makes this project even more difficult.
  • The College and the Registrar will return MAUI course forms that propose the revision of a course number.
  • Exceptions will be made only in emergencies.

2.  Please keep in mind that course numbers of dropped courses should never be reused when submitting a request for a new course.

  • The degree audit tracks a student’s duplication of course work through course numbers and not by course titles.
  • When the number of a dropped course is reused and a student has taken courses under both numbers, the student does not receive credit for the second course. Instead, the student record shows the second course as “duplication.”
  • It is difficult to catch these “duplication” errors unless the student brings them to the attention of the department or of the Registrar.
  • A request for a new course that reuses a course number will be returned to the department or approval will be significantly delayed until a justification for the reuse from the department is approved by the College and the Registrar.
  • Once the move to the new four-digit numbering system is completed, the reuse of course numbers will never be approved.

Thank you for your help and for your support of the Registrar staff members during their crucial work on the new degree audit.
