I am writing to remind you that the next edition of the General Catalog (2018-2019) must include learning outcomes for the major or majors offered by your department or program.  The Catalog generally opens in December for editing and closes in mid-January, with outcomes entered in your departmental chapter by the closure deadline.

Outcomes should express and prioritize the most important content and skills that you expect students to gain through completion of courses required for the major.

The UI Office of Assessment offers a number of articles and tips on creating learning outcomes.  Please view that website for further information.

Because learning outcomes for programs of study can differ greatly and since approaches by discipline vary, we ask that you consult with Wayne Jacobson, UI Director of Assessment, about this project.  Kathryn Hall is also happy to confer with you and to answer your questions.
