Students and parents may come to you with questions about the CLAS virtual commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 16. Accordingly, here is some basic info you can provide. Please feel free to pass this information on to your graduating seniors, and please let me know if you have questions.

Registering
The Office of the Registrar and CLAS have sent students emails with instructions for registering for their virtual commencement ceremony.

MarchingOrder is the company gathering all of the graduates' information for the “Presentation of the Graduates” section of the commencement. The MarchingOrder website has been having some troubles, so the UI arranged to extend the registration deadline to Friday, April 24 (from April 21).

To register by the April 24 deadline:

  1. Click the link in the email sent to you on April 14 from "noreply@marchingorder.com on behalf of ui-commencement@uiowa.edu." This will take you to the MarchingOrder website. Create your password. Note: The password link you were sent is unique to you; do NOT forward to others. (Check your junk or spam folders if you did not receive the April 14 email in your inbox.)
  2. Log in and complete the registration process.
  3. You may return to the site any time by going to the site's log-in page and using your uiowa.edu email address to log in.
  4. Once registered, you have until Friday, May 1, to submit a photo and other information.

Stars, Medallions, Cords, and Stoles

  • The Office of the Registrar will be sending the stars for distinction levels.
  • UI Honors students should contact the Honors office for information about receiving Honors medallions.
  • The CLAS cords for Honors in the Major will be sent when it is safe to do so.
  • The plan for sending other accessories—like stoles from student groups and other UI offices—is determined by the relevant group or office; students should contact them to learn more.
