I’m pleased to announce that Zoom has become Iowa’s instructional web conferencing tool. Zoom will be the replacement for Blackboard Collaborate.

At the end of the spring 2017 semester, the Blackboard Collaborate integration with ICON will discontinue.

Zoom is an application that allows users to attend and host meetings and webinars:

  • Host and attend meetings with up to 50 users
  • Share large meetings with 100, 200, and 500 seats
  • Share or host webinars with 1,000 seats

Please remember Skype for Business is also available for administrative use.

Zoom will be available to users via three different launch methods: a web-based interface through uiowa.zoom.us; a local client that can launch and join meetings; and also a new integration within ICON.

This application is available for use by all faculty, staff, and students. All users will be able to host for their courses’ meetings or create their own meetings.

Please note that students are a new addition to the contract and will be able to use Zoom for instructional group work and meetings.

Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions.  We are excited to offer you this new opportunity to optimize the learning experiences of you and your students.
