The July 1, 2024 faculty merit salary increase process will mirror last year’s process. In this process, rather than asking DEOs to rank all faculty in their department individually 1 through X, DEOs will be provided spreadsheets listing Y rank levels, where Rank Level 1 indicates the highest performing faculty. DEOs will assign their faculty to each rank level and may include comments as needed. DEOs may use criteria to determine rank as makes best sense in their department.

All faculty ranked are eligible for merit increases, but those ranked higher will be eligible for a larger merit increase. Like other UI colleges, the CLAS average for faculty merit increases will be 2% this year. The dean’s office will be assigning a percentage of merit increase based on the DEO’s ranking recommendations.

Notes:

  • Faculty retiring/resigning at the end of this semester and faculty on phased retirement are not included in the ranking worksheet and will not receive a merit increase.
  • Faculty with joint appointments will be ranked independently in each department.
  • Faculty must have met expectations in all 3 areas of performance to be eligible for a merit increase.
  • Faculty must have submitted a CV as part of their annual review to be eligible for a merit increase.
  • Faculty who received a retention offer to adjust their salary July 1, 2024 will be included in the ranking spreadsheet. The terms of their retention letter will dictate whether they are eligible for an additional merit increase.
  • Faculty salary increases will be calculated as either a percent increase of the current salary or (in the case of faculty with an outlying salary compared to the rest of the unit) a fixed dollar amount increase. In cases where a fixed dollar amount is utilized, it will correspond to the same dollar increase equivalent to the percentage raise received by other faculty members at the same rank level.
