Description

Hennepin County's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team is seeking motivated intern(s) who has intermediate GIS experience, is willing to contribute ideas and learn from others, and is able to successfully collaborate with colleagues to meet the county's GIS needs.

The intern's primary responsibility will be performing GIS technical tasks related to updating, creating, and maintaining enterprise geodatabase layers, and will have the opportunity to work directly with experienced GIS professionals on a variety of data related projects and initiatives.

About this internship:
This position is a limited duration, temporary, non-benefit earning internship.

Location and hours:
This intern will work approximately 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. from May through August 2020 with the possibility of extending the internship on a case-by-case basis. This position is located at the Hennepin County Government Center building in downtown Minneapolis, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience in:

Desktop and web GIS.

Spatial database editing.

Spatial analysis.

Map design.

Professional development.

 

In this internship, you will: 

Work primarily on two GIS key projects over the summer.

Scanning and Georeferencing historic aerial orthophotography for Hennepin County for several different years.

Digitizing dual carriageway road centerline segments and adding attributes.

Occasional mapping and data requests.

Need to Have:

Current enrollment in an associates, undergraduate or graduate level Geography or GIS program or a closely related field.

Nice to Have:Experience:

Editing GIS data and georectifying aerial imagery using ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 or higher software and/or ArcGIS Professional.

Understanding of basic GIS and spatial analysis principles.

Knowledge of cartographic principles.

Working in a collaborative environment under limited supervision.

Working with ArcGIS Online and associated applications.
