Geospatial Manager - Omaha, NE

HDR is looking for a Geospatial Section Manager to join our team developing and implementing geospatial solutions for clients and projects across transportation, water and resources business groups. We are interested in someone who is passionate about geospatial and information technology, self-motivated, and has a strong desire to lead, mentor, and grow a team of GIS and information management professionals. We are looking for a candidate who can appropriately apply technology to solve problems and provide professional services to our clients.

This position will be responsible for the operations of the Geospatial section including staff growth, staff development, technical leadership, quality control, marketing support and coordination with other disciplines. The successful candidate will be client focused and have the ability to proactively manage and market GIS projects including work share with other HDR offices.

Duties of the position include planning and implementation of technology solutions, project management; participation in marketing and client development strategy; implementation and promotion of HDR technology solutions, project management tools, policies and procedures, and QA/QC program; staffing and performance management, and staff professional development. The position requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral, to proactively manage and respond to geospatial and information management needs from other technical practices within HDR. Additionally, the position requires excellent interpersonal skills, used for personnel management, performance reviews, career development, and coordination of personnel resources as required by project needs. 

Specific Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of geospatial professionals supporting projects and deliverables for clients across several business groups.
  • Work directly with clients to appropriately assess geospatial and data management needs for complex infrastructure projects. Develop data management technologies and communication strategies to deliver accessible, relevant, user-friendly data-driven solutions to our clients.
  • Assess the technological skill level of the audience and client to provide an improved user experience and focus audience attention where needed by expressing information clearly and accurately. Collaborate with technical and communications staff to develop data-driven solutions that are user friendly and accessible for all audiences.
  • Apply user experience knowledge, data visualization and communications strategies to help create, inspire, and develop refined solutions to complex problems through organizing content, structure, and information architecture into user flows, wireframes, and interaction design.
  • Work across creative and technical teams to balance functionality with usability and develop approachable user interfaces with informative outputs. Write reports that summarize spatial analyses and communicate findings with charts, tables and narrative.
  • Manage and oversee technical projects/tasks, determine goals and objectives, and ensure project milestones are met.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures and support a culture of quality among the team and practice. Apply your understanding of project management principles through oversight in planning, directing, budgeting and monitoring projects for the team.
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • At minimum BA/ BS degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Data Sciences, Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience including geospatial technology, data visualization, communication strategies, project implementation and management.
  • GISP Certification.
  • Expert knowledge and hands-on experience of Esri’s suite of software products and solutions including desktop, server and online.
  • Extensive experience with Esri’s ArcGIS Online platform and associated products such as Web App Builder, Experience Builder, Dashboards, Story Maps, Field Maps, Survey 123, Hub, Living Atlas.
  • Extensive experience applying geospatial concepts, methodologies and solutions on transportation projects.
  • Strong understanding of management, and the ability to develop visual and communications strategies to combine data management, information visualization, and user experience to communicate spatial information effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and development teams and to write reports that summarize spatial analyses and communicate findings with data visualizations, charts, tables and narrative.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in business development, developing proposals, presentations, and project approach, budget, scheduling, and quality assurance.
  • Prior experience in personnel supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and stay organized. Highly responsive to requests from clients. Thriving in a fast-paced work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred MA/MS degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Data Sciences, Computer Science or related field.
  • Esri Certification a plus.
  • Expertise/understanding of AutoCAD/Microstation/BIM/GIS integration.
  • Experience in software development using Python, JavaScript, HTML or other appropriate programming environment is a plus.
  • Experience in SQL or Oracle development.
  • Experience in manage and administer ArcGIS server and SDE.
