University of Iowa undergraduates in the Department of English published Past Notes, an anthology of written work curated from high school students across Johnson County. The undergraduate students will be hosting a book launch and reading by the high school students at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6th, at Prairie Lights Bookstore in Iowa City, followed by a reception and book signing.
University of Iowa publishing students acquired, read, and edited submissions from high school students and chose a variety of pieces to include in Past Notes. The book is a nostalgic yet fresh collection of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry that seeks to inspire, challenge, and celebrate the outstanding writing of Iowa teens.
Past Notes was created through the Department of English’s course Literary Publishing, a year-long laboratory in which students learn the ins and outs of the publishing world. The course was taught by two UI Masters of Fine Arts students, Bryn Lovitt and Alexander Pines.
