University of Iowa Professor Paula Amad will give a lecture at the Figge Art Museum on July 21 at 7 p.m.
The lecture, titled “There’s No Place Like Home: The Wizard of Oz as a Tale of Migration,” will reexamine the profound influence of the 1939 film through an exploration of Dorothy as a figure of migration who holds urgent relevance, both to the film’s historical context and our contemporary society. The lecture is part of a current Figge exhibit, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: Selections from the Willard Carroll/Tim Wilhite Collection.” The exhibit started June 12 and will last until Sept. 25.
Amad is an associate professor and the chair of the Department of Cinematic Arts, part of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
