In the past, we have asked DEOs to prepare the Post-tenure Effort Allocation (PTEA) agreements for your faculty at the same time that you prepare copy of the Fall 2016 Schedule of Courses.  New this year, and consistent with our office’s efforts to streamline processes, we would like to postpone the deadline for PTEA submissions until Friday, March 4th, 2016.  This will allow DEOs to count on additional information on CDAs, stipend supplement awards, phased retirements, etc., thus eliminating the need to process adjustment to the PTEAP forms later in the Spring Semester.

The PTEA process is web-based, and the on-line database is administered by Kristina Yows in the Office of the Provost.  The database is available at https://provost.uiowa.edu/apps/pteap.  After reaching the website, you will be able to log in with your HawkID and HawkID password.

In addition, the College needs to have all PTEAs for DEOs for next year (AY 16-17) in our office by March 4, 2016.  If you are continuing your term as DEO and plan to allocate the same effort as this academic year, simply fill in the new form, sign it, and return it to me.  If your term expires at the end of this academic year, and we have not yet determined who will be chair of your department, I ask that you consider what you expect to be doing in AY 16-17 and make your changes to your PTEA form, sign it, and return it to me for my consideration.  If you wish to discuss your effort allocation for next year, please contact our office (5-2625) as soon as possible.

Our office will be sending your departmental checklist to you soon.  The DEO and all faculty members must sign the checklist.  In the case of individualized portfolios, a PTEA form for each such portfolio must be printed and signed by the DEO and faculty member.  Please forward both the signed checklist and signed portfolios forms to Wendy Danger, CLAS Dean’s Office, 240 Schaeffer Hall.

In preparing the PTEA agreements and entering the data into the on-line database, DEOs should keep in mind two important provisions of PTEA Policy:

  1. The faculty member may not reduce his or her teaching or scholarly/creative contribution to 0% for any period of time or take disproportionate responsibility in any one area over a long period of time.
  2. When the PTEA process is completed, the DEO must distribute to the faculty a description of each portfolio agreement and an explanation of how the department will continue to fulfill its mission while the agreements are in force.

Many thanks in advance for your cooperation in this important project.
