Please submit your department or program’s undergraduate independent study enrollment report for the 2015-2016 academic year by Friday, August 5. The report gives an overview of independent study hours supervised in your unit.

The Undergraduate Independent Study Report should be submitted electronically using the form at this link.

  • Do not include names or ID numbers on the report since this report is a summary of the numbers of independent studies conducted by the department.
  • Comments or suggestions about independent studies are welcome on the form. Please use the comment box.

The following are undergraduate independent study courses and should be included in the report:

  • Directed independent study. A faculty member and a student negotiate a course of study together.
  • Independent research. A faculty member supervises a student's independent research project.
  • Independent reading. A student completes an arranged set of readings under the supervision of a faculty member.
  • Independent creative project. A student proposes and completes a creative project supervised by a faculty member.

The following are not independent studies and should not be included in the report:

  • Practica, capstone courses, internships, GIS courses, honors thesis hours, and honors project hours are not considered independent study courses.
  • Graduate independent study courses should not be included in the enrollment summary. This report is only for reporting undergraduate independent studies.

Additional information about independent study courses for undergraduates is available on the CLAS For Faculty teaching policies and resources page. Please let me know if you need additional help. Thank you!
