This memo is in follow up to the February 14, 2024 CLAS Business Updates memo announcing the development of a new CLAS Instructional Track Faculty (ITF) Policy as required by the Provost’s Office. The CLAS ITF Policy Committee delivered a proposed ITF policy to the CLAS Executive Committee and the Faculty Assembly for feedback this spring. CLAS Executive Committee voted in support of the policy on April 2. The Provost’s Office approved the policy, so it now moves to a faculty referendum vote. Per UI Policy: “Each collegiate instructional faculty policy, and any subsequent proposals to change the policy, shall obtain the approval of a majority of the voting faculty within the college by a referendum supervised by the Associate Provost for Faculty.”

The faculty referendum on the proposed CLAS ITF Policy will be held April 24 – May 1, 2024 along with the CLAS Faculty Governance Elections. Per Provost policy, the referendum requires approval of a simple majority of voting faculty to be implemented.

The proposed ITF policy along with a brief summary and report prepared by the committee are available here.

The ITF Policy Committee will hold information sessions to answer questions regarding the policy during the following dates. All faculty and staff are invited to attend.

  • Thursday, April 18, 11:30am-12:30pm, 318 Phillips Hall
  • Monday, April 22, 1:30-2:30pm, E105 Adler Journalism Building
  • Friday, April 26, 3:00-4:00pm, 107 English Philosophy Building

Thank you in advance for your consideration as we update our policy to align with the institution and to better support our instructional track faculty.
