MSW Programs & Locations

How to Apply?
This is an online application process. The first step is to complete the UI Graduate College application and pay their fee; then you will receive an email with details about how to access the MSW application. The Grad College application includes a drop down box that will ask you to select the program for which you are applying. NOTE: The pdf below, MSW Important Guidelines for Applying for Admission, includes a table to assist with this step.

When completing the Graduate College application, it will provide a dropdown box for you to select which program and learning center you are applying. This can be confusing because the list will show Social Work followed by the type of program (e.g., Accelerated Advanced Standing or Advanced Standing), then the location. For reference, these are the 2019 admitting learning center names that will appear in the dropdown box:

Des Moines Learning Center shown as (John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center)
Iowa City shown as Social Work [nothing follows in parentheses]
Quad Cities Learning Center shown as (Scott Community College)

If you are applying for the Regular Standing program (60 s.h.) in Iowa City, it will appear as Social Work.
If you are applying for the Regular Standing program (60 s.h.) in Des Moines, it will appear as Social Work (John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center).

We have provided three links below to guide you through the MSW application process: Quick Guide, MSW Important Guidelines for Applying for Admission and the MSW Admission Policy Statement.

Upcoming Application Deadlines
December 1, 2018 for the Accelerated Advanced Standing (41 semester hours) programs in Iowa City and Des Moines.
February 1, 2019 for the Regular and Advanced Standing (48 and 60 semester hours) programs in Iowa City, Des Moines and the Quad Cities.

If you have questions after viewing the policies, please feel free to contact Tomeka Petersen with questions regarding the online application process: Thank you for inquiring about our School, and we look forward to seeing you at an informational meeting and receiving your application in the future!
