Tenure-Track Faculty in Film and Video Production

The Department of Cinematic Arts at the University of Iowa invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor with primary specializations in screenwriting and film production to join their Film and Video Production program, beginning August 2018. Cinematic Arts offers a B.A. in Cinema to 250+ majors and an M.F.A. in Film and Video Production as well as M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Film Studies. The successful appointee will teach screenwriting and related production courses at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and contribute to ongoing screenwriting initiatives being developed at the University of Iowa. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in Film and Video Production, service, and contributions to the overall mission of the Department of Cinematic Arts.

Required qualifications:

  1. MFA, Ph.D., or equivalent professional and/or academic experience.
  2. Specialization in screenwriting and film production.
  3. A demonstrated record of relevant accomplishments and ongoing productivity in creative/artistic activities.
  4. A demonstrated record of successful college-level teaching experience.

Desirable qualifications:

  1. Additional specialization and teaching in a related area such as: narrative filmmaking; hybrid film forms; new media; editing; animation.
  2. Engagement with social justice issues in creative work and /or teaching.
