  2. You should also check the Graduate Admissions website for more general information about graduate study ( as well as a link to apply on-line. The application process allows applicants to upload all of their supporting materials and includes an electronic letter of recommendation feature.

  3. The application deadline for the fall semester is January 15th each year for the following fall session. Please follow the application guidelines for the department on the Graduate Admissions website (see above).

  4. The Office of Admissions must have received the application fee before the department can consider your application materials.

  5. For non-native English speakers, the Graduate College will not approve action toward admission or financial aid until receipt of the applicant's TOEFL score.  Please note: the TOEFL institution code for the University of Iowa is 6681.

In addition TOEFL scores, our established procedures for admission include a full review by each program’s Admissions Committee of the applicant's admission materials. Prior to this review, we are reluctant to anticipate the decision of the committee.  No admission decisions are made prior to the review of application files by the admissions committees of the individual programs.

Regarding financial aid, we attempt to arrange support for as many students as possible. Admissions decisions are made separately from funding decisions. We make admission decisions first and funding decisions follow as soon as we know what our resources will be.

Additional information about the application process for the graduate program in Film & Video Production:

The graduate application process has two steps:

  • Submit an online application to the Graduate College.

  • Upload required documents through a secure portal.

After you submit your application, you will receive email instructions on how to establish your HawkID and password in order to access your Admissions Profile on MyUI, our online portal for students. All supporting materials can and should be uploaded through your Admissions Profile. If your academic program requires letters of recommendation, you will be asked to provide the contact information of your recommenders on your Profile. The recommender will then receive an email from the Office of Admissions instructing them on how to upload a recommendation letter and/or recommendation form.
