Student Academic Standards Committee

The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education chairs the Student Academic Standards Committee, which includes four faculty members who represent various disciplinary areas of the College and the University Registrar.

The Committee meets only in January and June to consider petitions to revoke academic dismissals. Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who seek revocation of dismissal from the College for academic reasons, must submit their requests to the Student Academic Standards Committee.

Students do not appear before the Committee, but submit their requests in writing (see Appealing a dismissal). The Committee considers and recommends action regarding each request to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education. The Associate Dean responds to each student in writing and conveys the decisions of the committee. The decisions of the committee are final.

Academic reviewers in CLAS Undergraduate Programs act on behalf of the Student Academic Standards Committee to review petitions for exceptions to other rules, regulations, and requirements of the College. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an academic staff member in CLAS Undergraduate Programs to discuss the petition process. Currently enrolled students may make an appointment via the online scheduler or by calling 319-335-2633; those not currently enrolled should call for an appointment.
