Lily Abromeit almost didn’t come to the University of Iowa because, as a native of Lawrence, Kansas, she was concerned that out-of-state tuition was out of her budget.
She says scholarships through the School of Journalism and Mass Communication have made being a Hawkeye affordable and, regardless, it’s been “worth every penny.”
“I know that being able to say I graduated from the University of Iowa School of Journalism carries a lot of weight,” she says.
Abromeit is double majoring in international studies and minoring in Spanish. She says a highlight of her educational career has been meeting SJMC alumni and learning from their success.
“It’s a tribute to what a great school we are when we get to meet and talk with alumni who have gone as far as Cosmopolitan and National Geographic,” she says.
Abromeit hopes to follow a similar story arc—her dream job would be at National Geographic.
