Susan M. Shullaw
Susan M. Shullaw is Principal, Susan Shullaw & Associates, Iowa City. Susan has worked in the field of higher education, nonprofit, and corporate communications for nearly three decades. After 22 years at The University of Iowa Foundation—most recently as Senior Vice President for Strategic Communications—in 2010 she formed her own communications consulting firm to assists nonprofit clients enhance their visibility and success.
During her tenure at the UI Foundation, Susan was responsible for all institutional branding and messaging, as well as the public launch of the University of Iowa’s first $1 billion campaign. She managed the Foundation’s departments of annual giving, communications, donor relations, and development research, and worked closely with top donors and volunteers. She also spent a year “on loan” to the interim UI president, conducting a study of the UI’s centralized communications resources. She twice chaired the national campaign communications conference for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
Susan began her professional career with Stamats Communications, where she served as editorial director of the firm’s college and university division. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Iowa’s distinguished English program.
