IDEAL is the Iowa Digital Engagement and Learning Initiative. Supported by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and housed in Rhetoric, IDEAL works with instructors to devise resources and develop projects that make classroom innovation easier. These projects ask students to engage with communities beyond the classroom by using digital technologies and creating work that endures beyond the semester.

We aspire to improve student life at the University of Iowa by encouraging American and international students to engage with each other in productive conversations in which they broaden their communication skills and understanding of differing cultural perspectives. As both international and domestic students practice their communication skills at the Conversation Center, they connect their larger communities and encourage a richer exchange of culture on campus.

Guide to the terms of classical and renaissance rhetoric. Sometimes it is difficult to see the forest (the big picture) of rhetoric because of the trees (the hundreds of Greek and Latin terms naming figures of speech, etc.) within rhetoric.

The Speaking Center, housed in the Rhetoric Department in Rooms 410, 412, and 414 EPB, offers quality, one-on-one and small group tutoring and consultation to students and instructors on campus who would like to work on any aspect of oral communication.

The Writing Center assists with all writing projects, including multimedia projects, at any stage of development. Our services are free and available to anyone in the University of Iowa community. Our job is to help you become a better writer, reader and critical thinker.
