The following resources are available on the University of Iowa's campus to international students who want to improve their casual English skills and to domestic students who want to contribute to intercultural understanding:

100K Strong Foundation Signature Partnership: In response to a 2010 international initiative, this program identifies student ambassadors who have experience studying in China or with the Chinese language to serve as leaders on campus and host events.

Bridging Domestic and Global Diversity: A leadership training program to help students better understand and react to cultural differences.

Building Our Global Community: A certificate program that educates UI faculty and staff on how to improve campus climate for international students and scholars.

Center for Diversity and Enrichment: Offers a variety of programs to enhance the cultural, social, and academic experiences of students. The programs have the goal of building community, celebrating cultures, and educating students on a variety of topics.

Center for Student Involvement and Leadership: Offers multicultural programs for all students on campus.

English Language Discussion Circles: Led by Tippie tutors, all international students, scholars, and English Language Learners from across campus are welcome to meet daily Monday through Friday from 12:30-1:30 PM in S126 Pappajohn Business Building.

Friends of International Students: This non-profit organization pairs Iowa City residents with international students to develop intercultural friendship and offer support.

Friends without Borders: Beginning in September of the academic year, this program pairs incoming international students with American students to create friendships and attend events together.

Global Buddies: A UI student organization matching international exchange students with American students who have often studied abroad to learn about culture and language from each other.

Global@Iowa: A course that brings together international and domestic students to increase cultural awareness and build cross-cultural relationships.

Heart Workshop: An environment to support the mental health of international students by promoting free communication and sharing.

International Buddies at Tippie: Each semester, this program pairs international and American business and pre-business undergraduates for social events and regular meetings.

International Student Outdoor Recreation Association: A community of international and domestic students to participate in outdoor activities together.

International Student and Scholar Services: Provides course work, programming, and training on cross-cultural issues as well as immigration and personal advising.

International Women’s Club: A group open to U.S. and international women, offering English classes and many social groups, to promote friendship and understanding.

Multicultural Student Organizations: Searchable list of student organizations on campus, including many multicultural ones.

Organization for the Active Support of International Students (OASIS): A student organization that works to improve the climate for international students on campus.

Speaking Center: Works with students to improve public speaking skills.

Speaking Tips from Toastmasters: Toastmasters is a world leader in communication and leadership development.

University of Iowa Student Government (UISG) Diversity Committee: Offers information on multicultural student organizations and their events and created an International Student Advisory Board to improve international students’ experiences on campus.

Writing Center: Offers a variety of tutoring options to help students improve their writing.
