John Shallman will take us on a journey, starting with his time at the University of Iowa and the inspiring lectures and teachings of Professor Jay Holstein. Shallman will talk about how he applied the knowledge gained from Prof. Holstein’s course, Quest for Human Destiny to write a book about the human condition.
"In Quest I learned that reading great books and ancient stories make sense of our own lives. Each book, each author’s 'religion' is a flashlight illuminating a path in the world and into our own hearts.” -Shallman

Finally, Shallman will share about his career and family, highlighting the discovery of his grandfather's 100-year-old manuscript.
"My grandfather’s exile to Siberia and faith in family helped illuminate my present and future. I learned that we, all of us, are the dreams of our ancestors and the living proof of their tenacity and will to survive. I learned that we all have a quest, a journey of transformation and discovery, and our ancestors’ stories show that we are never alone. Ultimately, I learned that my life is not a novel but a chapter, a long continuum from the dawn of time to eternity." -Shallman
