University of Iowa Music Professor John Manning has released his second solo recording, “Field Notes: Tuba Music from Iowa,” on Summit Records.

This recording features new works for tuba and piano with connections to Iowa performed by Manning, associate professor of tuba and euphonium and Alan Huckleberry, professor of piano. Two of the works on this recording were composed by University of Iowa alumnae Katharine Wohlman and Claire Sievers; two works were composed or arranged by Professor Emeritus Jerry Owen (Coe College); two works were commissioned by Manning, including "Four Paintings by Grant Wood" by Barbara York and "Sonata en Evoluçion Constante"; and one work, "Cheese Spread" was composed by Manning.

Manning and Huckleberry performed works from this recording at the recent International Tuba Euphonium Conference in Knoxville, Tenn. on May 30.

Manning is a faculty member in the School of Music, part of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
