Opportunities, Awards, and Scholarships
The Political Science Department offers a number of opportunities for both of its majors. These include internships, research experiences, and undergraduate conferences. The Department will often provide information about these opportunities through email and social media. Internships are an important part of the college experience and the Department helps our majors with internships in a few ways.
- Des Moines Internship Program - Provides students the opportunities to live and intern in a government and politically oriented field in Des Moines.
- Government and Politics Internship - Students doing other internships can receive academic credit.
- Research Opportunities - This includes experiential learning classes where students engage in research as well as one on one research opportunities with faculty.
The Department routinely emails students about internship opportunities in a variety of different fields and frequently provides opportunities for students to participate in national undergraduate conferences like the Student Conference on US Affairs held at West Point as well as providing some funding for students to present their research at a Political Science conference.
Please feel free to contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies about opportunities available to you through the Political Science Department.
