Our initiative is at the intersection of the public humanities, digital humanities, and public engagement—all areas in which UI faculty are performing innovative teaching, scholarship, and service. Our focus is the impact of academic work on civic life and society, using the opportunities provided by digital technologies to amplify and distribute broadly what we do as teachers and scholars, collaborating with communities on projects that have social and artistic impact, and envisioning new ways of interacting with our many publics.

The Public Humanities in a Digital World initiative was authorized by the University in October 2010. Our first few months have been occupied with envisioning our infrastructure and campus collaborations, and searching for new faculty who will join current UI faculty in exploring the impact of digital practices and emerging technologies in projects central to the humanities.

The Digital Scholarship and Publishing Studio of the University of Iowa Libraries offers services and support for students and faculty.
