Social Work Profs Saunders and Haskins win JSWE Best Qualitative Article award

An article written by University of Iowa Social Work professors has been named the Journal of Social Work Education Best Qualitative Article of Volume 51.

The article, “Cultural Competence: A Journey to an Elusive Goal,” was written by Jeanne A. Saunders, Motier Haskins, and Matthew Vasquez. It was chosen from among all articles published in the Journal of Social Work Education (JSWE) in 2015, for originality of thought, sound or innovative conceptualization of the topic, and conclusions and/or recommendations that add significantly to the professional knowledge base and to social work education.

JSWE Best Article Award winners will be honored at the Council on Social Work Education 2016 Annual Program Meeting in Atlanta, Ga. on Nov. 4.

Saunders is an associate professor in the School of Social Work, part of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Haskins is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Social Work. He is also the Critical Cultural Competence Certification Program Coordinator and the BA Program Director.

Vasquez received his PhD in Social Work – Child Welfare from the UI in 2014.
