History Prof Keisha Blain’s blog post cited by prestigious German newspaper

University of Iowa History Professor Keisha N. Blain’s recent blog post for the African American Intellectual History Society was cited in the German newspaper, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Blain’s blog, “Ida B. Wells, Police Violence, and the Legacy of Lynching” was in response to the recent police shootings of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota. The blog cites research showing black Americans are killed by police at a rate almost equivalent to the number of documented lynchings during the early twentieth century.

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, a daily newspaper published in Frankfurt am Main, is one of the most prestigious and influential newspapers in Germany.

Blain is an assistant professor in the Department of History, part of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
